SAMPLE Lisa Anderson We can’t help but derive aspects of our nature from our heritage and what we have come to know as a greater identity. I am proud to belong to the Ohlone Nation; a people found in Central California. The Ohlone are a matriarchal culture whose strength is founded in motherhood. As a mother myself, I deeply feel this truth. I also choose to see motherhood in a different light as the creator of works of art and as a result, the work I create becomes nurtured in the same manor as any children in the loving arms of its mother. The subjects for me that hold the greatest serenity and wonder are found in the natural world of living beauty, as well as the bones of its ancestors. I find deep fascination in the scientific study form and shapes locked within this world and constantly strive to portray scientific information through the clear and concise treatment of zoological, marine and botanical life. I hope to help bridge the chasms that exists between the natural word and its people who can so easily forget what wonders lay in the shadows and contours of our planet. I will continue to care for the work I create as its mother and cannot ignore the growing compassion I hold for my subjects. My greatest wish would be to pass this along to the viewer. back to writing index |
