One aspect of developing an effective and organized portfolio that can tend to be a bit overwhelming for many visual artists is the writing. I can't say how many times I have heard artists protest this portion of their portfolio with the simple statement,” I am a painter, not a writer!" Though this is a valid point, it doesn't change the fact that solid writing is a vital component to a good portfolio. the writing for a visual artists portfolio and motivation for the presentation of their work. Though each artist will have their own specific direction with regards to their writing, some basic structures can be fairly similar and follow a certain protocol that is understood as basic information to be included in any well developed portfolio. These include:

- an artist statement
- an artist resume
- biography
- title / medium list
Some of the writing assistance provided by the studio is in the form of consultation, referrals and references. However, for those artists who would prefer to hire a writer, that service is available as well. The process for writing assistance involves a one on one interview to determine what structure would best suit the individual artist and once determined, the interview continues to gather information to aid in the writing.
